Dave McMenamin and Martin Hendrix brought a unique concept for a sunroom to Sunnyside Designs, one which would bring a new world sensibility to an old world home.  "As far as the design of the conservatory as a tower in the rear of the house, we thought, complimented the historic nature of the house," said McMenamin.  "The house itself was probably built in the mid to late 1800's, and we wanted something that obviously looked like it was an addition, but at the same time complimented the style of that era."

The design has to pass muster with the local historic preservation society, which proved to be challenging at times.  "Probably the biggest challenge we faced was trying to mesh the design with the requirements of the historic preservation architectural review board," said Hendrix.  In the end, the design, which features a bridge from the tower to the home on the second level, became a stunning success.

The Design Awards are sponsored annually by the National Sunroom Association, comprised of manufacturers, suppliers and dealers in the sunroom industry.
